At St. Jude’s, we strive to provide clients with the tools they need to return to the community as self-sufficient, productive individuals able to maintain recovery. We would like to share this story from one of our clients and celebrate their journey to recovery with you.
“When I first came to St. Jude’s Recovery Center I felt so scared, so defeated, and so totally hopeless, lost, worthless and alone. Even in my early discovery of my own self I had my defenses up. I was very fearful of opening up and being honest about how I felt. I masked all feelings, making my first months very difficult.
I am now over seven months into the program and have so much gratitude towards every member of my clinical team and their supervisors who saw my individual needs, and who worked so hard to help me work through my fears, pride, self-pity and feelings of shame, guilt, rejection and no self-worth. They gave me coping skills for not only substance abuse but also my mental health disorders, such as anxiety and depression.
Today, I am learning to trust the program of recovery by using positive affirmations to build self-esteem, checking and changing negative thoughts to positive, being humble, taking the suggestions from my clinical team members, allowing myself to make mistakes, work through them, surrender to my old beliefs, and being connected with the God of my own understanding.
St. Jude’s has truly changed my life. Today, because of their loving, caring, awesome program, I am a new person. “Just for today.”
St. Jude’s Recovery Center loved me until I could love myself.”
